Sea of Galilee

The Sea of Galilee is a freshwater lake in Israel. It is the lowest freshwater lake on Earth and the second-lowest lake in the world, at levels between 705 feet and 686 feet below sea level. The center of Jewish culture and learning shifted to the region of Galilee. The lake is known as a Christian pilgrimage site, where Jesus was thought to have performed miracles.

First stop, the village of Tabgha at the Church of Multiplication. The modern church rests on the site of two earlier churches. It is traditionally accepted as the place of the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes (Mark 6:30-46) and the fourth resurrection appearance of Jesus (John 21:1-24) after his Crucifixion. Between the Late Muslim period and 1948, it was the site of a Palestinian Arab village.
